About Us

Education For The Poor is a non-profit organization founded to serve the poor in Vietnam. With the realization that education is the best vehicle for eradicating poverty and the most effective way to promote quality of life in the long run, Education For The Poor is dedicated to bring to the poor an opportunity to start, continue or further their education through the regular academic or vocational school system. In the course of its operations, the organization will not discriminate anybody on the basis of race or religion. Needy people of all races, religions residing in Vietnam are eligible for help from the organization.

In its quest to provide educational assistance to the poor, the organization intends to strengthen and upgrade the educational system that serves them. The organization will pay special attention to the remote and poor areas where education is either neglected or is not considered a priority of life. The organization will also aim to help the handicaps learn a trade in order for them to overcome the hurdles that block their path to a better life.

In support of these goals, the organization aims to fulfill the following tasks:

1. Provide academic and vocational assistance: Education For The Poor plans to give scholarship to students so that they can start, continue or further their education. The organization will pay particular attention to poor students from the seventh or eighth grade who might be in danger of dropping out due to economic reason. The goal here is to help these poor students finish the high school level. In order to expand and upgrade the vocational training programs, the organization will provide financial assistance to the existing vocational training centers that are currently serving the poor so that they can expand the sphere of their assistance. The organization will also help these centers buy more up-to-date equipment and teaching materials in order to improve their curriculum.


2. Provide educational assistance to the isolate, mountainous regions to fight illiteracy: Education For The Poor plans to bring education to the remote areas by hiring and bringing teachers to these areas. The organization will help build schools wherever they are needed to give children an equal opportunity to get education. Because sanitation and hygiene are virtually ignored in these parts of the country and their absence is the root of the prevalence of diseases, the organization also plans to develop teaching materials to convey to the students the importance of these issues in the fight against diseases and the creation of a better, healthier life. Providing educational assistance to the poor in Vietnam is a very long-term process in view of the current situation of the country's educational system.
